In her article “12 Ways to Take Better Care of Yourself” Tchiki Davis, Ph.D. says:” Practicing self-care isn’t always easy. Most of us are crazy busy, have stressful jobs, or are too consumed with technology to make time for ourselves. Me-time is usually last on the agenda. Worse, we can sometimes feel guilty about taking the time required to take care of ourselves”.
From my opinion, self-care isn’t being selfish. Most of the times we have to take care of ourselves to be able to take care of others around us. Because everyone is different, there are many ways and selfcare routines you can add to your day depending on what you love to do, how you refuel yourself and interests.
Tchiki Davis wrote 12 ways to start with your self-care routine and I have chosen some of them:
1. Make sleeping part of your self-care routine. Sleep, Sleep and sleep.
2. Say no to others, and say yes to your self-care. I know its hard to say no, but you are not obliged to say yes if you don’t feel like to, or you don’t have energy, or if you don’t have time! Saying No is a life saver technique.
3.Take a self-care break by getting outside. Reward yourself by going out for a walk, for a cup of coffee or maybe just for 10 minutes of meditation.
4. Take care of yourself by getting organized. A small change like a note book, to do list, or a calendar will always help you stay organized, and finding time for your self-care.
5. Schedule your self-care time, and guard that time with everything you have. Book your self-care time on your calendar and stick to it even if you tend to watch a series that you love. It is hard at first but once it is done, it will become easier next time because of the good feelings you’ll have about yourself.
Self-care is so important as you can not give from and empty cup, just decide what suits you the most, book the time, commit and start.
